Celery Bog Nature Area

Celery Bog Nature Area

The Celery Bog Nature Area has 195 total acres making it one of the largest parks in West Lafayette, IN. The name comes from the land being used as a vegetable farm prior to a major fire that burned the planting beds one summer.  As you can probably guess.. Celery was a major crop in the farm that supplied over 75 groceries in our region.

Throughout the park you’ll find an expansive system of trails for biking, walking, and hiking through the woods.  There are multiple resting benches on the trails, but be careful. If you sit for too long you might end up with a condition called resting bench face. (I apologize for the cheesy dad joke)
The wetland habitat attracts all kinds of creatures. There are over 120 different species you could encounter including humans, birds, turtles, coyotes, more birds, possibly a snake, beavers, opossums, rabbits, frogs, foxes, deer, and much more.

The tranquil setting is a great place to relax, but you can also get educational value by visiting the Lily Nature Center located at the back of the parking lot.  The Lily Nature Center offers educational activities, exhibits, and different programs throughout the year.
